Dr. James was raised in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. He attended Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, TX where he excelled in basketball and track. He then went to Southern Methodist University where he graduated magna cum laude in electrical engineering. During his junior year of college, Dr. James underwent an ankle surgery that helped him discover his passion for practicing orthopedics. His journey into medicine began in 1997, after three years of working as an electrical engineer.
Dr. James obtained his medical degree in 2001 from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. He then completed a residency in orthopedic surgery also at Baylor College of Medicine. He spent an additional year of specialized training as a fellow of spine surgery at the University of Texas at Houston. His medical education consists of ten years of training in the Texas Medical Center which is the largest medical center in the world. His surgical skills were sharpened by time spent at 14 different hospitals and surgery centers in the Houston area. This includes two tours of duty at the nations #1 cancer center, M.D. Anderson, and six years of trauma call at each of Houston’s level one trauma centers.
The scope of Dr. James’ practice includes the diagnosis and treatment of all general orthopedic problems. His main focus is the surgical and non-surgical treatment of disorders involving the spine. This includes minimally invasive spine surgery, disc replacement surgery, spinal trauma, scoliosis, spinal deformity, and arthritic conditions of the spine.
Dr. James takes pride in his ability to explain difficult medical concepts to his patients. He believes in spending adequate time with people to make sure they are comfortable with their treatment plan and they understand it fully.
